FIRST NATIONS ENGAGEMENT
Yukon First Nations are the original land stewards of the Yukon Territory. They manage and protect traditional, environmental and cultural values of their home. As such, Yukon First Nations are the largest mineral rights holders in Yukon, and the Yukon Chamber of Mines endeavours to establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships which will ensure Yukon First Nations communities and it’s people have the opportunity to benefit from the social and economic benefits derived from the mineral exploration and mining economy. Concurrently, the Yukon Chamber of Mines will work to ensure transparent and authentic communication with Yukon First Nations about the benefits of environmentally responsible and sustainable mineral exploration and mining activities while working to educate industry and Yukon Chamber of Mines’ members of obligations as outlined under the Umbrella Final Agreement, as well as best management practices when conducting activity in the traditional territory of Yukon First Nations.
