Whitehorse, Yukon – This year’s Yukon Mining & Geology Week has officially launched to celebrate – and help Yukoners better understand – all that responsible mining and exploration contribute to the territory’s socio-economic reality.

Several free, family-friendly events are planned culminating with the annual Discovery Camp on Friday, May 23 at the Canada Games Centre in Whitehorse which features exhibits, hands-on activities and career opportunity discussions by numerous local mining, exploration and service and supply companies.

“Yukon Mining & Geology Week is an important event in our calendar each year as we come together before the field season to share our industry’s stories, successes and setbacks with Yukoners,” says Yukon Chamber of Mines Executive Director Jonas Smith.

This year’s event is being co-presented by the Yukon Chamber of Mines and Yukon Women in Mining.

“Partnerships with Yukon First Nations, with other organizations and with each other are key to our industry moving forward together,” continues Smith. “We ask Yukoners to imagine their lives without Yukon exploration and mining and hope events this week provide Yukoners with lots of opportunities to learn more about what today’s responsible, modern mining and the committed people who lead it look like in the territory.”
