Mayo, Yukon – Eleven (11) exploration and mining companies, operating within the Mayo district, were pleased to donate $12,500 to the community’s J.V. Clark School to support children’s and youth athletic programming.
Jonas Smith, Executive Director of the Yukon Chamber of Mines, presented a cheque to school principal Douglas Cooper during the community’s annual career fair on behalf of funds donated by Azarga Metals, Banyan Gold, Cantex Mine Development, Fireweed Metals, Hecla Mining, Metallic Minerals, Silver North, Sitka Gold, Snowline Gold, Trifecta
Gold and TruePoint Exploration.
“Several mineral companies operating in the Mayo area had recently received similar donation requests from J.V. Clark School to cover a funding shortfall for their sports teams and came together to help address this gap,” said Smith. “Collectively, the companies were also able to support additional expenses so that these teams can travel.”
Following the cheque presentation, the 11 companies hosted a steak dinner in the village’s community hall which brought together approximately 200 members of the community including First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun citizens of all ages.
“On behalf of the Yukon Chamber of Mines, I extend my sincere thanks to these companies for combining their efforts for the school and for the community,” added Smith. “We also extend our appreciation to everyone who came out to the dinner in support of responsible exploration and mining in the area.”
On July 10, the Yukon Chamber of Mines is hosting a first-ever golf tournament in Whitehorse to establish a fund to further support such community requests focused on children and youth in the territory.
