Levelling the Playing Field
Four industry associations, including the Yukon Chamber of Mines, came together to conduct research to better understand the cost differential faced by exploration and mining companies operating in the territories. Based on this research, they have put forward a range of ideas on how federal fiscal policy can help to unlock the mineral potential of the North, including an enhanced mineral exploration tax credit for remote projects and the establishment of a northern infrastructure investment bank.
Best Management Practices for Fossils at Placer Mines
Palaeontological resources are the fossil remains of ancient plants and animals. Yukon’s fossils tell us about past life and environments and are an important part of our heritage. This publication is intended to provide information and assistance to the Yukon placer mining industry to ensure protection and management of non-renewable palaeontological resources (fossils) and palaeontological sites.
Yukon Placer Mining Best Management Practices for Heritage Resources
This guide is intended to provide users with up-to-date information about best management practices for heritage resources in the Yukon Landscape but these guidelines should not be considered as comprehensive. There are both known and unknown sources of data which have not yet been incorporated and topics which have not yet been treated or addressed. These topics and data will be incorporated and new versions of the documents uploaded as time and resources permit. By their very nature many specific BMPs soon become obsolete as “better” BMPs become available but the concept and the identified objectives behind the examples remain valid.
Yukon Mineral and Coal Exploration Best Management Practices and Regulatory Guide
Best Management Practices (BMP) refer to a range of guidelines and recommendations – in the case of the mining industry – designed to reduce the potential impact of mining and exploration activities on the environment. On October 28, 2010, the Yukon Chamber of Mines launched its Yukon Mineral and Coal Exploration Best Management Practices and Regulatory Guide to equip its members with a range of planning tools and practices that pertain specifically to the regulatory and environmental conditions of the Yukon mining industry.
